The Polar Bear Plunge is an annual event held on January 1st to raise money for local charities. It usually takes place at 10am in the Tay River, next to the Perth Legion, where participants jump into the river to raise money for local charities. Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases locally and provincially we will be switching to safe home alternatives such as an ice bucket challenge, or freezing cold shower or bath....Maybe even a roll in the snow. It can still be a lot of fun and you can now include your household!
The Perth Polar Bear Plunge has been going for 27 years and supports a different community group each year. To date, the Polar Bear Plunge has raised over $340,000.
What HaPPENS
Plungers come up with a creative home alternative:
Ice bucket challenge / Freezing Cold Shower for 10 seconds / Fill the bathtub with ice and water and dunk yourself / roll outside in the snow.
Plungers take a video or pictures and post it on social media for all to see or we will post it for you.
Plungers bring in any pledges not collected online at an agreed upon time or send in the mail.
Tips for PLUNGERS
DO NOT DO A FULL PLUNGE ON YOUR OWN - IT IS NOT SAFE
HAVE FUN, GET CREATIVE AND MAKE SURE TO HONOR YOUR PLEDGES BY DOING SOMETING REALLY COLD!
START A CHALLENGE!
Ideas for Challenges:
If you are home plunging, challenge a friend to home plunge, and see who raises the most money.
If you have registered as a team, challenge a competing group, business, or family.
You can also do what our lead organizer did - promise to do something special if you collect over a certain amount of pledges. See Alfred's Double Dip Dare.
Or come up with your own fun and unique Plunge Challenge!
