Shannon will speak about the impactful world of restorative justice and how advocacy can serve as a bridge to understanding and reconciliation in communities. Shannon highlights her experiences as an advocate and the successes of restorative practices in various settings. Audiences will leave equipped with insights into how they can actively participate in and promote justice and healing in their own communities and beyond.

Lanark County Community Justice is hosting two talks by Shannon during Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2025. All are welcome: Professionals who work with victims/survivors of crime, parents, caregivers, student councils, educators, municipal representatives, justice service providers (police, legal, crown) and victim/survivor service providers and victims and survivors of crime and those who have been impacted by crime. Lanark County Community Justice (LCCJ) is pleased to launch its first Restorative Justice Fundraising Concert Series. 
For over 20 years, LCCJ has been working with police, the Crown, and defense and duty counsel to deliver restorative justice forums for youth and adults in Lanark County. The results speak for themselves: quicker resolution of cases, lower recidivism rates, and more meaningful opportunities to repair the harm done to individuals and the community.
“Although partially funded by government and social services agencies, we need the support of individual donors and corporate sponsors to deliver our restorative justice programs across the county.” says Executive Director Joellen McHard.
With the energy and talent of local musicians, LCCJ hopes to raise $3,000 through three concerts taking place in April, May and June.
 
Here's the line-up for the Restorative Justice Fundraising Concert Series:

• The April 26th 7pm concert features Doug Barr, a local singer/songwriter with a passion for the environment, off-grid living and storytelling through original lyric-based music. A festival favorite here in Lanark County, Doug has years of experience writing music and performing for all ages. This event will be held at the Oakfield Rugby Club in Perth.
• On May 10th 7pm come enjoy LONG SAULT TRIO at Branch 244 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Perth. This trio was formed on the grassy banks of Long Sault Creek in McDonald’s Corners, and their music meanders through folk with hints of blues, jazz and traditional styles. Members include Lanark County locals Victor Maltly, David Tilston, and Linda Marie Grenier. A perfect event to celebrate Mother’s Day!
• The June 7th 7pm concert will feature the Lioness of Lanark, songstress Ali McCormick– Come to the newly renovated Ferguson Falls Community Centre to hear Ali’s heartwarming tales of growing up in Lanark County and her wanders into the far mountains of Western Canada.

Join us for a Radio Interview on Lake 88.1 @ 4:30pm. Guest Speaker Marlee Liss, Founder & Author of Re-Humanize, will be providing a brief recount of her experiences with the Restorative Justice forum that resolved her case. There is no registration required, we hope you'll tune in!

There are 2 Events taking place on November 26th 2020:
Event 1: Starting at 11am, join Marlee Liss and Crown Attorney, Cara Sweeney over Zoom where they will share the value of restorative justice to address sexual assault in the criminal justice system.
Event 2: Stating at 1pm, along with her mother, Barbie Liss, Marlee will lead a 2 hour Restorative Justice Integrated Workshop over Zoom.
A brief outline of our Restorative Justice Integrated Workshop: 

• Educational Component: What is restorative justice? We will be exploring the definition, principles, roots and benefits of Restorative Justice as well as addressing myths about it. 
• Interactive Component: Participants reflect on themes of forgiveness, repair and accountability within their own lives. Restorative approaches to justice are explored within varying contexts of their own lives; embodied learning strategies include reflection through writing, partner/group sharing, and mindfulness practices, including meditation and visualization. 
• Integrative Component: The group comes together to mastermind ways to implement restorative principles into their daily lives; participants collectively create a toolkit of strategies and potential actionable changes to implement restorative justices into their daily lives. 
• Summation: Closing circle with space for sharing. 

About our Guest Speaker:

Marlee has worked with countless beings internationally to inspire transformative healing. She published a book about her journey through sexual violence, trauma and transformation in 2017. Marlee is a rape survivor who participated in a Restorative Justice forum to resolve her case. 
Re-Humanize Movement, www.rehumanizemovement.com 
Marlee Liss founded the Re-Humanize Movement with her mother, in 2019 after experiencing a profoundly healing Restorative Justice process for sexual harm. Along with her mother, Barbie Liss, Marlee will lead a 2 hour Restorative Justice Integrated Workshop on Nov. 26th.
